3rd police force files charges in chase case

Sharon police have filed criminal and traffic charges against a Vienna man already in hot water with Hermitage and Brookfield police.

Matthew D. Furrie, 26, led police on a chase after Hermitage police, seeing him in a car in a parking lot along East State Street at 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, learned that the license plate on the car was stolen, police said.

Furrie sped across a curb onto State heading west, police said. The pursuit was called off when speeds reach 90 mph, police said.

Furrie was arrested by Brookfield police after he abandoned the car at Warren Sharon Road and Brookfield Avenue and ran, police said.

Brookfield police said they are holding Furrie on their own charges of receiving stolen property and resisting arrest, and on Hermitage police's warrant.

Furrie is in Trumbull County Jail and is to be arraigned Thursday, police said.

Hermitage police have charged Furrie with receiving stolen property, fleeing and eluding, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, speeding and trespassing by vehicle.

Sharon police have charged Furrie with reckless endangerment, fleeing and eluding, speeding, reckless driving, driving on the wrong side of the road and 10 counts of running red lights.

The Mercer County departments probably will not be able to seek extradition until the Brookfield charges are resolved, authorities said.
