West Hill incomes to be surveyed

Brookfield trustees and the Trumbull County Planning Commission will conduct an income survey starting at 8:30 a.m. May 1 for residents of the West Hill.

The survey is being conducted to qualify households in the area for federal money to build sanitary sewers within the neighborhood.

Since the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has labeled West Hill one of 18 "unsewered areas of concern" in the county, sanitary sewers have to be built to protect community health and saftey.

To qualify for federal grants for the sewer project, more than half of the households in the area need to be considered low or moderate income. These residences have to make less than 80 percent of the county's median household income.

According to the 2000 census, the county's median household income was $38,298.

Low- or moderate-income households will get funding assistance for the construction of sanitary laterals and associated tap-in fees once the principal sanitary sewer line is built.

Through a program managed by the Office of Housing and Community Partnerships, the commission will allocate $600,000 in funding to these households through a sewer and water development program.
