2 hurt when motorcycle hits horse

Two West Salem Township residents were injured when their motorcycle slammed into a horse that was pulling an Amish buggy at 6:09 p.m. Saturday in Crawford County, police said.

Thomas L. McKenzie, 55, and Gaylyn Aubel, 47, both of 102 Tanner Road, were taken to UPMC Horizon, Greenville, police said. A hospital spokeswoman said she had no record of them being admitted.

The buggy, driven by Rueben L. Swartz, 18, of Conneautville, was southbound on Townline Road, Summerhill Township, when it failed to yield the right of way at Dicksonburg Road, police said.

The motorcycle, which was westbound on Dicksonburg, slid onto its side and into a bridge abutment after hitting the horse, police said.

The buggy spun and rolled onto its side, but neither Swartz nor a passenger was injured, police said.

The horse suffered a broken leg and had to be killed, police said.

Summerhill Township is about halfway between Conneaut Lake and Conneautville.
