Loomco
takes over
Damascus
building

Loomco International said Friday it has taken over the Damascus-Bishop Tube industrial building in Greenville-Reynolds Industrial Park for warehousing.

Rod Loomis, president of Loomco, declined to say if his company bought or will be leasing the 200,000-square-foot building. Damascus-Bishop ceased operations at the plant last year and moved production to a plant near Pittsburgh. During its final days, the pipe and tube maker employed about 135.

Loomco needed the building for extra warehousing space and has already begun to move products into the facility, Loomis said. As a result of getting the extra space, the company will be able to consolidate its other warehouses at Greenville-Reynolds Park, Loomis said. However, he said it wasn't known at this time if any of the other warehouses would be vacated as a result of getting the new building.

Immediate plans call for an 85,000-square-foot outdoor area, used by Damascus-Bishop as a storage area, to be enclosed by the end of summer.

By getting the building, jobs are expected to be created at Loomco but Loomis said he was unsure how many.

Based in Reynolds, Loomco is an importer, manufacturer, designer and distributor of general and seasonal consumer merchandise. Employing 65 locally and another 20 internationally, Loomco also has offices in Youngstown, Chicago, Minneapolis, Hong Kong and Canton, China.
