National Day of Prayer observances at 2 sites

National Day of Prayer will be celebrated Thursday with two observances in Mercer County. "Righteousness Exalts a Nation," from Proverbs 14:34, is the theme.

Prayer is planned for noon that day in Grove City Community Park's Keystone Pavilion. There will be a brunch at 11:15 a.m.

Plans include prayer for Grove City's mayor, borough council president, Chamber of Commerce director and surrounding township supervisors.

Grove City Public Works Department will be recognized for their work.

Those attending will be encouraged to pray not only on that day but to remain faithful in prayer for the needs of the community.

For more information or to make a reservation for brunch, call Center Presbyterian Church, Pine Township, (724) 748-4118; or Dave Lingle, (724) 967-3658.

In Greenville, there will be a community prayer service at noon in Central Park, or in Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, 260 Main St., in case of rain.

Melodies of Praise will perform at 11:30 a.m. in the park.

The Rev. Philip Garner of Zion's Reformed United Church of Christ, Greenville, will speak during Greenville Kiwanis Club community prayer breakfast at 7:30 a.m. in Hempfield Station One Banquet Center.

Greenville Kiwanis Club is sponsor.

A salad luncheon, hosted by Greenville Area Council of Church Women, is set for 12:30 p.m. in Zion's Reformed UCC. Major and Mrs. Ted Slye, of Salvation Army Shenango Valley Corps, Sharon, will present a program. There also will be a dance and mime presentation.

Paper products will be collected for local families in need.

Lunch reservations are needed by Monday. For reservations or more information, call (724) 588-6940.
