WHEATLAND Wheatland Tube workers will walk off their jobs at midnight. Bill Kerins, company vice president, said Saturday night that the United Steelworkers of America Local 1660 gave company officials notice of their intent to strike. "Negotiations came to a halt last week. The union wasn't moving. The company and the union have differences," Kerins said. Kerins said he didn't want to make any further comment until the workers actually walk out. "Our plant's open, and it's business as usual until they do go out," he said. The local has about 475 members, Kerins said. The strike would only affect the main plant in Wheatland, because each plant has a different contract, he said. The Herald was unable to contact a union representative. |
