of assault will have case heard in court By Sherris Moreira-Byers Herald Staff Writer
All the charges against a Grove City man who allegedly broke open a door and assaulted a woman in Grove City were held to court Wednesday before District Justice Lawrence T. Silvis, Worth Township. Christopher L. Legas, 28, of 21 Maple Terrace Drive, was charged with burglary, criminal trespass, two counts of simple assault, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, criminal mischief and public drunkenness by Grove City police on April 21. According to the police affidavit: Legas dropped off a woman at her apartment in the 100 block of East Poplar Street shortly after 1 a.m. April 21. Fifteen to twenty minutes later, she heard someone pounding and kicking her door. She realized it was Legas and told him to leave, but he continued to pound on the door, broke it open and entered her residence. The woman ran to her bedroom. Legas followed her, grabbed her arms and used them to strike her face several times. He then ripped off her shirt and skirt. Her phone rang and he left the residence. She tried to secure the door, but was unable to because of the damage. Legas returned and she hid in the basement behind a couch and called her mother, who then called 911. Legas found her and began yelling at her, claiming she lost his car keys. When police arrived, they found two Valiums and a Xanax in a plastic bag in his pocket. Police said Legas smelled heavily of an intoxicant, had slurred speech and glassy eyes. Legas was in Mercer County Jail Friday afternoon, according to a jail spokesperson, because he had not posted $2,000 straight bail. |
