Fairhaven School levy renewed

Trumbull County voters on Tuesday overwhelmingly agreed to keep funding Fairhaven School.

According to unofficial results from the Trumbull County Board of Elections' Web site, voters renewed Issue 1 22,091 to 10,660.

The issue was the only countywide one on the primary ballot.

Election officials had expected voter turnout to be light, and according to the Web site, of the 125,695 registered voters in the county, 33,772 voters cast ballots Tuesday. That means just under 27 percent of registered voters ventured to the polls, slightly more than the predicted 20 percent.

Voters first passed Issue 1 in 1998.

Officials at Fairhaven had said the levy provides 25 percent of the school's operating budget, which is used to fund three workshops for more than 400 students.

The 1.5-mill levy will stay in effect for 10 years and will be used to support and run the school's programs, including the acquisition, fabrication, support and use of facilities for mentally retarded and developmentally disabled people.
