Man accused of repeatedly assaulting woman

A Sharon man was taken to Mercer County Jail after police said he assaulted a woman over a period of almost two days.

Police were called to the home of Robert Wagner, 34, of 1146 Baldwin Ave., at 3:13 a.m. Thursday for a woman who fell down the stairs and needed an ambulance.

When police arrived they said a 36-year-old Sharon woman told them Wagner had assaulted her several times since Tuesday. At one point Wagner placed a loaded rifle against the woman's head and threatened to kill her, police said. Wagner grabbed the woman's throat and covered her nose and mouth with his hand, police said. He also threw her to the ground, police said.

The woman was treated at the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System for bruises on her face, arms, neck and shoulder, as well as a bleeding mouth and a leg injury, police said.

Wagner also threatened to shoot a policeman, police said.

Wagner was arraigned before District Justice James E. McMahon, Sharon, on charges of aggravated and simple assault under the Domestic Violence Act, making terroristic threats and harassment and stalking. He was taken to Mercer County Jail after failing to post $10,000 bond.
