Winds blow down trees

At least three roads were blocked by fallen trees as spring winds blew from the west through the area Sunday.

Mercer County 911 said it received reports of trees down throughout the day.

Glenn School Road, which runs through Sandy Creek and Mill Creek townships, and other roads in the northern part of the county were totally or partly blocked, 911 said.

The Herald also received a report that Hadley Road in Hempfield Township was blocked.

After 11 a.m., the wind consistently blew between 22 and 30 mph, with the strongest gusts, 43 mph, recorded between 7 and 8 p.m.

A cold front pushing across the country caused the winds, which prompted the National Weather Service in Pittsburgh to post a wind advisory between 4 and 10 p.m.

The wind is expected to die down some today, averaging about 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.
