Rendell to meet leaders in local stop

Most people have heard of Air Force One, the plane that carries President Bush to all corners of the world.

Well, some Mercer Countians are about to get their first look at "Commonwealth One," the bus carrying Gov. Ed Rendell to all corners of Pennsylvania.

Today, Rendell is scheduled to make his first stop in the county since being elected last November. He will be at the Mercer County Career Center, Coolspring Township.

Beginning at 3 p.m., Rendell is expected to meet with several county business and community leaders to discuss economic development.

Participants were believed to have been recommended by state Sen. Robert D. "Bob" Robbins, Salem Township, R-50th District; state Rep. Michael C. Gruitza, Hermitage, D-7th District; and Dick Miller of Keystone Research Inc.

A pair of presentations reportedly will be made to Rendell, including one by Larry Reichard, executive director of Penn-Northwest Development Corp., and Rachel Martin, executive director of the career center.

After the presentations, Rendell is scheduled to host a question and answer session with those in attendance. A news conference for the area media will then follow.

After his stop in Mercer County, Rendell is scheduled to participate in a town meeting at 5:15 p.m. in Mary Mother of Hope Church and Community Center, 117 N. Beaver St., New Castle.
