Mobile home could be total
loss from fire; pets rescued

A hamster, a dog and a bird were saved from a mobile home as flames and smoke ripped through the structure at 70 Oak Leaf Estates Thursday afternoon.

Crews from the township's volunteer fire department responded.

No one was injured, Assistant Fire Chief Bill Williams said.

Williams said he believes the fire was reported by a man walking by who noticed smoke pouring out of the home.

Williams said the fire began in an air-conditioning unit. Part of the living room, kitchen and tipout was damaged by flames and the remainder of the trailer had smoke damage, he said.

Williams said it was difficult to tell exactly what type of air treatment unit caused the fire since it had severely melted.

He added that the trailer next door received some siding and skirting damage.

A damage estimate was not immediately available, but Williams said the structure appeared to be a total loss.

Paramedics assisted the home's owner, Jennifer Weaver, at the scene.

Neighbors said they didn't hear any explosions or see flames shooting in the air. Most said they heard about the fire on police scanners.

West Middlesex Fire Department assisted the township fire officials.

Ms. Weaver, who was visibly shaken by the situation, said she wasn't home at the time, but she was very glad her pets were rescued from the home.
