Marking 100 years

was founded
by Slovaks

A centennial celebration was held May 3 in St. Ann Church, 601 Fruit Ave.

Festivities began with Mass celebrated by Catholic Diocese of Erie Bishop Donald W. Trautman, who was assisted by the Rev. Stephen J. Schreiber, spiritual assistant at the church; Rev. Matthew Ruyechan, Order of Friars Minor, the church's administrator; Monsignor Salvatore P. Mitchell, retired pastor of Church of the Good Shepherd, West Middlesex; Rev. Edward M. Lohse, St. Mark Catholic Center, Erie; and Rev. George M. Duritsa, who is a vocation from St. Ann.

Sisters Genevieve Mary (Assumpta), Pat (Mark) Buranosky, Norberta, Ann Catherine Melichar, M. Francesca Parana, Patricia Maykowski, Mary Louise Vrana and Mary Lou Metro, all teachers of the former St. Ann School, also attended.

A dinner and dance followed in The Rosemont banquet and conference center, Sharon, with the Stan Macy Band providing music. St. Ann Church received proclamations from the City of Farrell, state House of Representatives, Governor's office and Mercer County Commissioners.
