Broadway Avenue is a two-lane state road running through Sharon, Farrell, Wheatland and Hermitage. And it isn't equipped to handle high traffic volume, doesn't provide adequate visibility in some spots, isn't compatible with local and regional planning efforts and doesn't meet PennDOT and Federal Highway Administration criteria for travel lanes, shoulders and turning and parking lanes.

At least that's what officials of the Broadway Avenue Improvement Project explained Monday.

The state Route 60, or Broadway, corridor is an industrial area, getting a high volume of trucks, yet offering limited access, they said.
