hike in taxes, less spending By Amanda Smith-Teutsch Herald Staff Writer Greenville school directors Monday passed a tentative budget that would raise taxes by 1.5 mills. The $14 million proposal, which will be supported by a property levy of 49.8 mills, will be voted on for final passage in June. Spending for 2003-04 budget is $300,000 less than this year, said board member Barry Oman. "We've had a very tough time with this budget," Oman said. "We cut some things we normally wouldn't have." Those cuts came in the form of eliminating an alternative fourth-grade program, reducing cash used to buy new technology equipment and eliminating a teacher's aide position, said Superintendent Dr. Patricia Homer said. |
