Sharpsville council moved a step closer Wednesday to determining the future of the borough's police department. Just what that future will be, however, is far from settled.

Council approved a two-pronged motion to continue talks with Hermitage about a possible contract-for-services option that would mean the demise of the Sharpsville police department, while at the same time pursuing an agreement with the borough's police union to be able to use more part-time patrolmen should the Hermitage talks fall through.

Council members Guy Moderelli, Tom Lally, Luann Anglin, Alex Kovach and Gary "Gus" Grandy voted for the motion at the special work session while council President Jack Cardwell voted no. Member Bob Piccirilli was absent.
