With a proposed $20 million expansion of roads and a bridge at Interstate 79 and state Route 208 near Prime Outlets at Grove City, PennDOT plans to alleviate current and future traffic woes at the fast-growing interchange area.

PennDOT officials met with the public Thursday to discuss plans for handling the heavy traffic congestion at the Springfield Township shopping area, which also includes several restaurants, motels and convenience stores.

"We've projected a 2 percent traffic increase every year. We're designing this highway project to handle that. We feel we have a good design to handle that traffic," said Dean Collins, PennDOT project manager. The highway agency has a target date of 2006 for completion.
