When some women get together, they go shopping, get their nails done or talk about relationships over a cup of coffee. But a group of women recently decided to hang out together with rifles, fishing poles, canoes and pistols. The Lakeland Longbeards Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation held a Women in the Outdoors event May 17 at the Custaloga Scout Reservation in French Creek Township. It brought about 40 women together to learn how to fire a shotgun, shoot an arrow, call for a turkey and more. "I really like the outdoors. I just wanted to learn a little more about it, especially the shooting," said 21-year-old Wendy Roberts, of Hadley. "It's something that women don't get the opportunity to participate in." |
