A group of Mercer residents didn't want to see the holiday pass without some kind of recognition for area veterans, so they took matters into their own hands.

Last year there was no Memorial Day event in the borough.

"I thought it's (Memorial Day) not going to go by this year. We're going to do something," resident Cheryl Duda said.
