The United Way of Mercer County recognized individuals Wednesday at its 28th annual meeting.

W. Arthur Heckathorn was given the Volunteer of the Year Award. Heckathorn, who was the campaign chairman last year, has been involved with the United Way since 1981. He is the vice president of business banking at National City Bank.

"He always has the best interest of the community at heart," said United Way board member William Friedrich.
