Debbi Magner, foster care coordinator for Mercer County Children and Youth Services Agency, says it takes a very special person to be a foster parent.

Ms. Magner says that in the year since she's been coordinator, she's met incredible, selfless people who have opened their hearts and homes to children in need.

"Our foster parents seem to know how to make our children feel comfortable. They're dynamite," she says. "I marvel at how they arrange their whole life to fit in new members, and they do it over and over again."

That's why, Ms. Magner says, the agency chooses to honor foster families in May, which she says has been designated as the state's Foster Parent Appreciation Month.
