Group's newspaper ad seeks stories of 'unjust' local courts

An advertisement placed in the community section of the Herald Thursday is looking for responses from people who think they have been "a victim of an unjust court ruling," especially pertaining to child custody, in Mercer County Common Pleas Court.

Judge Michael J. Wherry, who makes some of those custodial rulings, spoke about the problems involved in such cases during a phone interview Thursday morning.

"I've got three or four of them out there that are currently pretty hot," he said "They're upset at the authorities and upset at me," he said, referring to several custody battles he has presided over recently. "It's what we call the First Amendment. Many of these people have exhausted the system ... So what do they do? They go to the court of public opinion."

According to the group in the advertisement, the "YA-YA Women of Mercer County," they are asking for people to respond to an e-mail address with their stories about problems with the court.
