of abusing, neglecting dog By Larissa Theodore Herald Staff Writer
A 40-year-old Sharpsville man may spend 15 days in Mercer County Jail after he and his mother were found guilty of neglecting his pet dog. Robert Daugherty and his mother Leona, 580 Fourth Ave., Sharon, pleaded not guilty to summary charges that they abused the dog, but were found guilty Friday by District Justice James E. McMahon. Mrs. Daugherty will not spend time in jail, but she and her son must pay $1,656 in restitution and court costs and serve 40 hours of community service at an animal shelter. Mrs. Daugherty didn't have to own the dog to be held responsible because the animal was living in her backyard, said Mercer County Humane Society agents. |
