Girl, 5, hailed
as little hero

When her great-grandmother's stove caught fire on April 8, 5-year-old Aleesha Wyman of West Middlesex knew just what to do.

While her great-grandmother Julia DeGiacomo tried to put out the flames from the grease fire, Aleesha calmly picked up the phone and dialed 911, just as she'd been taught at preschool.

"The policeman was at school, and he told us if there was ever an emergency we should call 911," Aleesha said.

Saturday, West Middlesex Fire Chief Bob Lucich held a party and presented Aleesha a hero's plaque in honor of her brave actions. The party was at her preschool class at the Buhl Club, where she'd learned how to call for help.
