rejects union's offer on insurance costs Herald Business Editor
Wheatland Tube Co. on Monday rejected striking workers' offer for a new health care plan saying, among other things, the union used the wrong rates. On May 21 United Steelworkers Local 1660 presented the company with a health care insurance package which the union said would have saved the pipe and tube maker $1 million last year. The local represents 470 production and maintenance workers at the Wheatland plant who went on strike April 28 when their contract expired. Workers said the company is seeking concessions such as co-payments on health care insurance and changes in pensions and retiree benefits. |
