A contentious fire department contract was OK'd by one side Monday night and could be settled tonight. At least for this year.

Springfield Township Supervisors voted 2-1 Monday to approve the first year of a three-year contract with the township's volunteer fire department, pending approval by the fire department. Firefighters will vote on the contract at 7:30 p.m. tonight at a meeting at the township fire hall.

The first year of the contract is unchanged from the current contract, said Supervisor Judy Hassler.
