at Wheatland Tube to 5-week-old strike Herald Business Editor
Movement on both sides was reported Tuesday in contract negotiations between Wheatland Tube Co. and striking union workers, but a final deal remained elusive. Negotiators representing United Steelworkers Local 1660 and the pipe and tube maker met with a federal mediator in an attempt to reach a new labor pact. Local 1660 represents 470 production and maintenance workers who struck the Wheatland plant April 28 when their contract expired. Workers said the company is seeking concessions such as co-payments on health-care insurance premiums and changes in pension and retiree benefits. |
