Unionized nurses at the State Regional Correctional Facility at Mercer in Findley Township will be among nearly two dozen informational pickets today at prisons across the commonwealth in hopes of raising public awareness of a trio of issues.

Fourteen members of the Service Employees International Union 1199P are expected to be in front of the prison at 801 Butler Pike between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., local president Judy Whitaker said Tuesday.

Various unions across the state, including SEIUs involving about 230 members at 25 state facilities, are in negotiations for new contracts, she said. Those contracts expire June 30, the end of the state's fiscal year.
