John Frydrych, owner of Walt's Golden Dawn, was named Citizen of the Year and Shannon's Kandy Kitchen, owned by Larry and Debbie Shannon, was honored as Business of the Year by Mercer Area Chamber of Commerce.

The awards were bestowed at the chamber's annual dinner Wednesday at Howard Johnson's motel in East Lackawannock Township.

Frydrych is the second-generation owner of the grocery store and supports organizations such as school, sports and the chamber. Over the years, he has donated his time and efforts to Brandy Springs Park.
