Plans for the new Brookfield cemetery took one leap forward as township trustees awarded the contract Monday to get the land cleared.

After looking over several bids, trustees voted unanimously to award the contract to Sandy Creek Hardwood Lumber Co. of Hadley.

The company's bid of $17,615 to log timber off the land snagged the contract, beating out four other timber companies.
