The students have been asked to draw pictures of friends with crayons, and Susan Ream is going around to each child writing the name of the friend on his or her paper.

"John, who's your friend?" she asked John Simms, one of a dozen 4- and 5-year-olds in the Little Hornet Camp at Artman Elementary School, Hermitage.

John pointed across the table to Nick Arp.

"Nick?" Ms. Ream asked, and John nodded his approval.

It's only the second day of camp, but John has proven that it's already starting to pay off.
