bell has special meaning By Kristen Garrett Herald Staff Writer
The 29th annual Transfer School System class reunion had a very special guest and a very special service this year. Aleeta Mowry Service, 100, of West Salem Township, graduated from Transfer schools in 1921. She attended the reunion Saturday at Reynolds VFW Post 7599. Mrs. Service also attended a ceremony to dedicate the original school bell -- which dates back to the Civil War era -- to the Evangelical Church of God, the former school building. The bell was taken from the school between 1955 and 1957 and for many years no one knew what became of it. Eventually the bell ended up at Reynolds High School and was later returned to the Transfer School System. |
