man serves as surrogate father

Roland Barkesdale-Hall recently got a special gift for Father's Day from his two young nephews.

"They gave me this beautiful Father's Day card," he gushed, holding it out for perusal.

"Happy Father's Day to an uncle who has so many fine points," the card reads, with two jotted signatures below the Hallmark script.

The card was from 15-year-old Demetrius Torres and 11-year-old Shimannee Torres, whose mother, Veronica Torres, is in the Army and currently stationed at Camp Arifjan in the Kuwait/Iraq region. Ms. Torres, a 1975 graduate of Sharon High School and single mother, was called to duty in December along with her Akron unit.
