Banned but not beaten -- skateboarders find loophole

By Sherris Moreira-Byers

Grove City police enforcing the borough's ban on skateboarding were surprised recently to find out they had no business telling skateboarders to leave a section of College Avenue between South Broad and Center streets.

The block-long section of College Avenue was apparently left off the map of downtown streets and state routes skateboarders are banned from using.

"I think it was just overlooked to be honest. They have copies of the ordinance and are well aware it's not covered," said Police Chief Dean Osborne. "We've had skateboarders pull out copies of the ordinance and tell us: 'We're allowed to be here.' It's happened."
