to balance school budget By Monica Puhak Herald News Intern
Grove City Area School Board Monday adopted a 2003-04 budget and raised property taxes by 1 mill. The final spending plan of $23,952,630 is about $150,000 higher than the tentative budget unveiled last month because of the cost of bond refinancing, said Superintendent Dr. Robert Post. It will be supported by a levy of 44.33 mills. A mill is $1 for every $1,000 of assessed property value; assessments are a property's 1970 market value. At 44.33 mills, a property assessed at $30,000 would carry a $1,329 tax bill, about $30 more than this year. Directors Sue Schepp, James Crow and Dr. Sharon Shipton opposed the budget because of the 2 percent tax hike. |
