Fifty years is a long time to go to school. But the Sauer family of the Sandy Lake area has had a student from their family in the local school system since 1952.

On June 4, Lauren Sauer of Lake Township concluded that attendance streak by graduating from Lakeview High School.

Starting with Ed Sauer, who began his scholastic career in New Vernon School in New Vernon Township, before the creation of Lakeview Consolidated School District, now Lakeview School District, 13 members of the Sauer family have attended and graduated from the local school district

"It was a one-room school house. Actually two rooms with an upstairs and a downstairs. And there were two outhouses, one for the boys and one for the girls," said Ed Sauer of Hanover, Pa. By second grade he was attending the former Gilmore Elementary School, part of Lakeview Consolidated School District. He graduated in 1965.
