The former treasurer of the Shenango Township Volunteer Fire Department has made her first payment to Mercer County Common Pleas Court as she repays money she was accused of stealing from the department last summer. Jacalyn Varga, 51, of 450 Pulaski Road, Shenango Township, faced two counts of theft and one count of receiving stolen property for allegedly stealing $967. Mrs. Varga and the District Attorney's Office reached an agreement June 3 that will keep the woman from being prosecuted for the crimes. As part of the agreement, said Assistant District Attorney William Moder, Mrs. Varga agreed to pay back the money and any court costs or fines. When the costs, restitution and fines are paid in full, he said, the charges will be dismissed. If Mrs. Varga doesn't pay in full, she could be prosecuted. |
