Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 218 Meadowbrook Road, Hermitage, will observe its 175th anniversary on June 28-29. As a Disciples of Christ denomination, the church was established in June 1828 after a series of evangelical meetings. The gatherings were led by Walter Scot, a noted Disciples evangelist, and Adamson Bentley and Thomas Campbell, the father of Disciples denomination founder Alexander Campbell. The church's first meeting was held on the bank of the Shenango River northwest of the present State Street Bridge. |
