No end in sight to strike
after latest bargaining talks

It looks as if the strike at Wheatland Tube Co. will continue for awhile as company and union negotiators met Tuesday with no contract agreement reached and the next scheduled meeting not until July 14.

United Steelworkers Local 1660 presented the company with its outstanding issues and provided information regarding a pension plan through the International USW, said Bill Kerins, vice president of operations for the pipe and tube maker.

Pension information provided by the union will require careful review by the company, which will be done over the next couple weeks, Kerins said. He said it was premature to comment on any specifics of the meeting and the company would respond at the next negotiating session "unless the union is willing to make some significant movement on key issues before then.''
