By Jeff Greenburg Herald Political Writer The groundbreaking for the new Mercer County Jail, originally scheduled for 2 p.m. today at the site in Findley Township, has been postponed, Mercer County Commissioners said Wednesday. Commissioners, including Chairman Cloyd E. "Gene" Brenneman, had stated at previous public meetings that the groundbreaking was scheduled for today. On Wednesday at an agenda meeting at the courthouse, however, Commissioner Olivia M. Lazor said it would be up to the general contractor to schedule a groundbreaking. And since commissioners weren't supposed to award contracts for the 265-bed jail until today, they said it would be unreasonable to think the general contractor selected could schedule a groundbreaking in such a short time. |
