Festival is Backyard's way of saying thanks

By Sherris Moreira-Byers

Some people like to send thank-you notes. But Kristen Mars, owner of Backyard Creations Home & Garden in the Volant area, would rather give a festival to show her gratitude.

"It's kind of a thank-you to my customers," said the Harmony resident, referring to the summer festival Saturday that will be held at her business on Black Road, just off U.S. Route 19, two miles south of Leesburg.

Her thank-you will include steel drum band Caribbean Music Connection out of Greenville and vendors selling such items as unique wooden birdhouse and benches made out of old barn wood and twigs, silk flower arrangements, jewelry and pottery.

There will be food such as Italian ices and Black Angus burgers, plus balloon creations, face painting and a woman who tells fortunes.
