Chase ends in head-on crash and charges against 3 men

By Kristen Garrett

A police chase Thursday that started in Sharon and ended up in a crash in Hubbard Township left three Youngstown men facing a variety of charges in several municipalities.

The incident started around 7:45 p.m. when Hermitage police asked other police in the area to be on the lookout for a blue Chevrolet Cavalier with Ohio license plates because people in the car had just stolen two air conditioners and a circular saw from Kmart, police said. A witness gave police a description of the car and a registration number.

Sharon police gave the following account:

A Sharon policeman spotted the car, driven by David Pope, 45, at U.S. Route 62 and Wayne Place and used lights and sirens to try to stop the car. Pope wouldn't stop and a second policeman positioned himself to stop the car at Route 62 and Budd Street.
