Local fireworks displays

Sharon

The Quaker Steak & Lube is sponsoring an "All Day Bike Nite" beginning with breakfast at 6 a.m. today. The day will end with a giant fireworks display at 10 p.m. in downtown Sharon.

New Wilmington

Westminster College will host an old-fashioned Independence Day celebration with a free concert and fireworks a day early: 7:30 p.m. Thursday at Brittain Lake, New Wilmington.

This 14th annual celebration will feature the River City Brass Band playing a mix of patriotic, religious, folk and popular Broadway and Hollywood sounds.

Opening this year's celebration is the Veterans Memorial Pipers Band, bagpipers from Meadville.

Returning is Battery D, 229th Field Artillery of the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, who will supply howitzer fire during the "1812 Overture."

Appearing for the first time in this celebration are the New Life Baptist Church Singers.

The evening will conclude at dusk with a fireworks display by Pyrotecnico.

A large crowd is expected for this family-oriented evening. The audience is advised to bring blankets and lawn chairs for seating, and picnic baskets and refreshments are permitted. Food vendors will also be on site.

Greenville

A celebration will be held Thursday at Riverside Park in Greenville. Festivities will begin at 6:30 p.m., [note corrected time; print edition was in error] with a performance by the band "Pipe Dreams," and fireworks will begin at 10 p.m. Concession stands will be on hand for the concert.

Jamestown

A fireworks display is being planned for Saturday at Pymatuning State Park. The fireworks will be set off over the dam at the park, and are scheduled to start at dusk.

Grove City

The Grove City Community Patriotic Program begins at 8 p.m. Friday at the lower campus of Grove City College. It will conclude with fireworks at 10.
