Districts will stay awhile in ailing health care group

By Kristen Garrett

Employees of Sharon and Reynolds school districts will be getting their health care insurance through the Western Pennsylvania Schools Health Care Consortium for another six months.

Attorneys and representatives for the school districts and the consortium began a hearing Tuesday before Mercer County Common Pleas Court President Judge Francis J. Fornelli. The consortium wanted to stop the districts from leaving. The districts wanted to pull out because the consortium charged them -- and the 10 other member districts -- extra to pay off its $4 million debt.

Fornelli said the hearing was to determine if the districts pulling out of the consortium would cause it irreparable, immediate damage.
