23 Kenco employees losing jobs

By Michael Roknick

A decision by one company to close its operations in Hermitage is causing another company to lay off nearly two dozen of its workers.

Kenco Logistics, a warehouse and distributing company in Chattanooga, Tenn., said Wednesday it is laying off 23 of its warehouse employees in reaction to Carpenter Technology Corp. of Reading, Pa., opting to scale back its operations and close its warehouse on Kirila Road in Hermitage, said David Gilley, vice president of business development for Kenco.

Carpenter is a customer of Kenco, which is responsible for staffing the building with warehouse workers. Carpenter is a metals manufacturer and distributor and its Specialty Alloys Division decided it no longer needs the Hermitage warehouse, which is stocked with stainless steel bars, Gilley said.

A call to a Carpenter spokesman was not returned.
