Man, 30, enters guilty plea to corruption of 15-year-old

A Sharon man charged with sexually assaulting a 15-year-old Farrell girl in February has reached a plea agreement in Mercer County Court of Common Pleas.

Kirk D. White, 30, of 370 Ormond Ave., pleaded guilty Monday to charges of corruption of minors and indecent assault. He had faced felony charges of sexual assault and attempted rape.

As part of the plea agreement, White was required to recount the crime under oath.

White testified that he had attended a Feb. 1 party at a home at 124 Fruit Avenue in Farrell where he saw the girl. He said he went upstairs later to go to the bathroom and saw her lying on a bed in an open room, wearing a T-shirt and undergarments. White said he felt tired and asked the girl's permission to lie next to her.

"She said I could lay on the bed," White told Judge Michael J. Wherry.

White said he then took off his clothes, down to his boxers, and lay next to the girl on the bed.

Later, Diane Philips, who lived at the home, came into the room, asked what was going on, and told him to leave, White said.

At a preliminary hearing, Ms. Philips testified she saw White on top of the girl, and that the girl was unconscious.

The girl had no recollection of the assault.

When asked why she was unconscious, White told the judge, "Everyone was drinking and everyone was getting high."

Indecent exposure and corruption of minors are misdemeanor charges. White faces a maximum penalty of 7 years in prison and $16,000 in fines. When he committed the crimes, White was serving a four-year probation he received after finishing a 3- to 6-year sentence for a 1995 drug conviction, so he also could be penalized for violating his probation. He has been in Mercer County Jail since his arrest in February on $50,000 bond. Wherry reduced his bond to $2,500.

White is scheduled for sentencing in September.
