While a little movement was reported in negotiations between Wheatland Tube Co. and its striking workers Tuesday, the two sides remained far apart on key issues. Representatives of United Steelworkers Local 1660 met with company officials for a total of several hours on Monday and Tuesday. The local represents 470 production and maintenance workers at the Wheatland pipe and tube plant. Union workers went on strike April 28 after its labor contract expired. The main sticking point, union and company officials say, is health insurance costs. |
