Motorists should be alert to local road work

Heavy traffic congestion is likely in several locations next week because of road construction projects in Mercer County, PennDOT said in a news release.

Crews will be working Monday through Friday on Interstates 79 and 80 in Mercer County.

On Interstate 80, one lane, both east- and westbound, will be closed for concrete slab repair between mile post 15 and mile post 21. The work site is two miles east of the Interstate 79-Interstate 80 interchange in Findley Township. Construction workers and equipment will be near open traffic lanes.

Traffic delays also are expected on Interstate 79 between the interchange of the two interstates and mile post 121, north of the Mercer exit.

One lane, both north- and southbound, will be closed for resurfacing. Congestion and delays may occur, especially between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Work is expected to continue throughout the construction season.

PennDOT reminds motorists traveling through construction areas to slow down and be alert for changing conditions.

Resurfacing is under way through mid-October on U.S. Route 62 between Zahniser Road in Jefferson Township and U.S. Route 19, Mercer.

Lamor Road will be closed from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday in Hermitage for roadway repair. A red arrow detour will be posted.

Lane restrictions will cause traffic delays in the work zones, and motorists should be alert for changing conditions and find alternate routes, PennDOT said.
