Headliners men's club lights up a hill on state Route 18 outside of Greenville. Its blue neon lights stand out in the darkened landscape, directing customers to a haven of erotic dancers. Some people, like the Rev. James Chapin of Living Word Christian Center in West Salem Township saw the adult men's club as a den of activity he did not want in the township. So, with the help of the American Family Association of Pennsylvania, Chapin and a group of township churches and pastors banded together and got a bottle club ban referendum placed on the primary ballot in May. Headliners is a bottle club. It doesn't have a liquor license, but patrons can "bring their own bottle" and consume alcohol on the premises. The referendum passed by a 2-to-1 ratio. The law goes into effect July 26 -- 30 days after the election was ratified in June. What happens then could have some interesting legal ramifications. |
