By Jeff Greenburg Herald Staff Writer Leonard White, the acting postmaster of Clark, wasn't in the borough Nov. 10 when a devastating tornado rumbled through the area killing one person and leveling many homes. But White, of New Castle, has a healthy regard for storms, nonetheless, for he was in Beaver County in May 1985 when one of a series of deadly tornadoes that tore through the region, including Mercer County, crossed his path. "I have a little bit more respect for them than I used to," White said from the darkness behind his counter about two hours after another strong storm passed through the county on Monday. White said he was on duty at about 1:30 p.m. at the post office at Charles Street and state Route 258 when a resident came in and told him the weather sirens had sounded. Moments later he looked out the front window and saw a "whiteout" caused by a driving wind and rain. It wasn't long after that he started hearing "stuff hit the roof." |
